Family heartbroken after reuniting lost dog found on roadside with pawrents, not before falling in love with the dog in the lone hour he was in their care: ‘I wonder what HANK is doing right now? has become a frequent, out-loud pondering’

While most of the wholesome dog rescue stories we feature here have the happiest of endings, this one is a bit more like a sweet and sour candy. It sure is evocative and it sure is wholesome, but there is a sourness there that simply cannot be ignored.

You might not think of Duluth, Minnesota to be one of the first places in which such an emotional tale of canine reconciliation might come from but that is certainly the case for this story. After coming upon a pupper on the side of the road, the dutiful Minnesotan who found the pupper brought him home. After all, the roadside is no place for a pup. After getting the good boy cleaned up and fed, the family had already managed to fall in love. His sweet temperament and behavior winning the family over one by one. But it would sadly be short lived.

The father of this family warned his loved ones to try and remain unattached, to keep some emotional distance, for he knew that this pup might still have a family out there looking for him. And in the event that they are located he would be going home. Which sadly is exactly what happened. But it brings to light the question that we should all be asking ourselves which is, is it not better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all? Is it better to have loved a dog and returned him to his rightful home than to have left him to the streets?

Oooooweeee. These things are tricky. Some people like this family take the pawspecitvie that you cannot get attached to the random dog you have just saved. While other people like to believe that when a dog suddenly comes into your life like this it is a sign that they were destined to be yours. We have seen so many people who fought that feeling and ended up adopting the pupper in the end. But in this story, sadly, but also happily the doggo’s family was found and that attachment proved to be a bigger problem than previously thought.

Oh we can understand. Hank likely has a really lovely home, if not only shown by the fact that his pawrent was actually actively looking for him. And being in such a sweet, safe and loving environment produces a pup that can light up the life of any hooman. So it is not at all hard to see how and why this family fell in love. For a brief moment they got to feel what it is like to be in the presence of a pawfect pupper. A cut above the rest. But alas, all things must come to an end and this was the end of their time with handsome Hank.
